WHY SPONSOR A TEACHER INSTEAD OF A CHILD?

You can choose to sponsor part of the salary of a teacher for $25 a month. Your donations will go towards paying the salary of a teacher or staff member in the school. This option may be particularly appealing to individuals, churches or other organizations who would rather support the administrative expenses of the school rather than an individual child. A beginning teacher at the school will make about $75 a month, so your donation will be a great encouragement to them. Experienced teachers may earn up to about $100 a month.

Because we are a largely volunteer organization, only 10% of your donation is used for administrative expenses. That means that 90% of your money goes directly to the salary of the teacher you sponsor. If you send an additional gift for the teacher during the year, 100% of that money is spent as designated.

What are the advantages of supporting a teacher instead of a child? First, a portion of the money given to sponsor the children goes towards the salaries of their teacher, who are the fundamental building block in the education of the child. If teachers are sponsored, the money from the child sponsorships that would go to pay teacher salaries will then be funneled into programs such as health care or food programs. Another advantage is that the money given to support a teacher provides support for every child in the school, because it is not designated to a particular child.

HOW TO BECOME THE SPONSOR OF A TEACHER...

1. Contact us and request a registration form. We will then send you the information that you need in order to register as a sponsor. Or, you can CLICK HERE to download a registration form, which you can fill out and mail.  If you wish, you can register to be a sponsor by going to the Donations section of this website and filling out a donor form.  Just specify that you wish to sponsor a teacher. 2. Send the completed form to the address above, or send us an e-mail with the requested information.

3. Include the following with the form:

   1. A check or money order made out to CHILDREN OF LAKE ATITLAN, INC.  You can choose to make donations monthly, quarterly, or yearly. All donations are tax deduct able.

   2. You have the option to send a personal greeting and/or photo to the teacher that you sponsor. In your greeting, do not include your home address, e-mail, or phone number. The staff member you sponsor will be as anxious to get to know you as you are to know them.

WHEN YOUR REGISTRATION FORM IS RECEIVED, WE WILL SEND YOU...

1. Personal information about the teacher you are sponsoring, along with a photo.

2. Personal communications from the teacher you sponsor.

3. Updates about the school and the community of San Juan La Laguna

4. Information about communicating with the one you sponsor. All letters are translated by us before they are sent.
